Spiced Apple Bread


1 1/4 cups applesauce

1 1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

2 eggs

3 tbsp milk

2 cups white whole wheat flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp cloves

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 small apple, chopped

1/4 cup brown sugar (for sprinkling)


Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and grease loaf pan.

In bowl, mix together applesauce, butter, sugar, eggs, and milk.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder & soda, spices, and salt.

Sift into wet mixture, and stir thoroughly.  Fold the chopped apples into the batter, and pour into loaf pan.

Sprinkle the  top of batter with extra brown sugar and extra cinnamon.  Bake in preheated oven for 1 hr-1 hr 15 min. or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.  Allow to cool once removed from oven, remove from loaf pan, and transfer to platter.
