Homemade Ketchup

I absolutely love ketchup and put it on everything!
What I do not love is all of the additives and preservatives
in your average bottle of ketchup, so I decided to make
my own.  It is much more cost effective and tastes even
better!  It should last in the fridge a few weeks.  Enjoy!


2 tbsp Olive oil

1 small onion,diced

1 large clove garlic, minced

2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce

3 1/2 tbsp cider vinegar

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp chili powder

1/8 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp spicy brown mustard (or mustard seed)

1 tsp flour (or cornstarch)


Heat oil over medium heat, and saute onions and garlic until softened.
Add tomato sauce and vinegar–stir.  Simmer about 1 min.
Add sugar and spices, and stir well.  Add flour, and mix thoroughly.
Reduce heat to low, and simmer until thickened, about 20-30 min.
Remove from heat, and allow to cool.  Blend ketchup in food processor
or blender until smooth.  Add more seasonings as needed, and transfer
ketchup to glass jar or container.  Keep refrigerated.
